President Tinubu Nominates More Non-Career Ambassadors



.Ibas, Dambazau, Enang, Ohakim, Others Make List

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded more names to the Senate as nominees for confirmation as non-career ambassadors, with the list comprising a former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and ex-Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and former Interior Minister, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau. 

The list also includes Ita Enang, a former Senator, and Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State.

The president’s letter was read during Thursday’s plenary by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who said President Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite consideration to allow the government to fill "critical diplomatic postings.”

Akpabio had since referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and directed the body to conclude its screening and report back within one week. 

It would recalled that President Tinubu had few days ago sent the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees, comprising 17 as non-career ambassadors to the Senate for screening and confirmation.  

Among the non-Career Ambassador designates are: Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia, a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri (Delta); former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmud Yakubu; former Ekiti first lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Enugu governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
