CUPP Spokesperson Applauds Ikenga Ugochinyere For Decamping From PDP To APP

.says he did his best to salvage PDP

National Spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Comrade Mark Adebayo, who also doubles as the Convener of the New Direction for Nigeria Movement (NDNM), has poured encomiums on Member, House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, for the courage he displayed by dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joining the Action People's Party (APP) after a long-drawn internal crises, which he said had virtually rendered the main opposition party a shadow of its former self.

Ugochinyere, representing the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, announced his defection to the APP on Wednesday 7th of January, 2026 at a public rally held at Ideato.

Adebayo, who also doubles as the Convener of the New Direction for Nigeria Movement, and a member of APP,  said this in a statement, copy of which was made available to newsmen on Thursday, commending Ugochinyere for the bold step he took to dump PDP, which he described as "a sinking ship" and aligning himself "with a political party that is poised to become the rallying point of opposition activism and the beautiful bride in Nigeria's democratic re-engineering."

The CUPP spokesperson noted that the wide acceptability of the lawmaker's action by his people could be gauged by the unprecedented mammoth crowds that graced the occasion of his public announcement of relocating their mandate to APP, which he described as a more stable and stronger political party with seamless internal democracy and consistency in democratic principles guided by a genuinely patriotic leadership.

Adebayo, while applauding Hon. Ugochinyere's political sagacity as evident in his admirable capacity for pragmatic navigation of the complex labyrinths of Nigeria's political cosmogony, noted that the lawmaker fought a good fight in PDP, invested so much to rally stakeholders to salvage the PDP,

He, however, said the dream could not come through because "the party had gone beyond redemption because the falcons could no longer hear the falconers due to powerful internal hatchet-jobbers," noting that the bold move was a testament to his pedigree as a fighter for social justice and a defender of the democratic rights of not only his constituents, but Nigerians as a whole.

Text of the statement read:

"Dear Honorable Ikenga Ugochinyere, I commend the bold step you took to dump a sinking ship and aligning yourself with a political Party that is poised to become the rallying point of opposition activism and the beautiful bride in Nigeria's democratic re-engineering.

"The wide acceptability of your action by your people could be guaged by the unprecedented mammoth crowds that graced the occasion of your public announcement of relocating their mandate to a more stable and stronger political Party with seamless internal democracy and consistency in democratic principles guided by a genuinely patriotic leadership.

"Your political sagacity is evident in your admirable capacity for pragmatic navigation of the complex labyrinths of Nigeria's political cosmogony, despite your youthfulness.

"You fought a good fight in the Peoples Democratic Party. You invested so much in your efforts to rally the party's stakeholders to salvage the PDP, but the party had gone beyond redemption because the falcons could no longer hear the falconers due to powerful internal hatchet-jobbers. Your bold move is a testament to your pedigree as a fighter for social justice and a defender of the democratic rights of not only your constituents, but Nigerians as a whole.

"You have been known as an intrepid go-getter who sacrifices so much in defence of what is right, just, and proper. Your decision to join the APP with its illimitable and positive potentials is probably the best decision of your political career. The massive solidarity you received from your constituents for this action is a sure endorsement of your electability next year in whatever capacity you may wish to contest.

"Your people have spoken loud and clear that your election mandate is as solid as the rock of Gibraltar and as constant as the Northern star. You possess the youthful energy,  intelligence,  and requisite experience to always make a difference in the lives of your constituents and far beyond.

"The enthusiasm that your people displayed when murderous state actors tried severally to assassinate you by electing you even in absentia, has evidently burgeoned as could be seen at your public announcement yesterday. Certainly, 'A luta continua, but vitória é certa.

"To you, your entourage, and esteemed family, I express my unreserved congratulations and solidarity. Working together, we can do a lot to help our dear country."
