Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has ordered probe into the murder of a mother, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of the state, describing the incident as barbaric, senseless, and a grave assault on human dignity.
Governor Yusuf gave this directive on Saturday in a statement by his spokesperson, Mr Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, as he mourned the demise of the victims, and extending his condolences to the bereaved’s family, the people of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the entire Kano State.
The governor directed the Kano State Police Command to immediately hunt down the perpetrators and ensure they were arrested and prosecuted, vowing that his administration would leave no stone unturned to ensure that perpetrators of the tragic incident were brought to justice.
Besides, the governor also ordered the Kano Neighborhood Corps, to intensify patrols and community surveillance across vulnerable areas, to prevent a recurrence of such tragedy.
Governor Yusuf called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property.
The governor prayed that Allah to grant the departed souls, eternal rest and give their loved ones the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
According to reports, a group of assailants had on Saturday broke into the house of the victims and attacked them with dangerous weapons, with their motive for their attack on the family still unknown.
A statement by the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, further confirmed the incident, disclosing that the command received a distress call at about 12:10 pm on Saturday with report of an attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
The police spokesperson said following the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani.
According to the statement, the team on arrival at the scene, evacuated the victims to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
"The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival," Kiyawa said.
