A group, under the aegis of Giant Women in Media (GWIM), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the first female Director-General (DG) of Nigerian Law School, just as the association congratulated Odusote, saying her appointment was an honour well deserved.
President of GWIM, Ms Clementina Olomu, gave this commendation in a statement, calling on President Tinubu to include more women in various positions to serve to the nation.
Olomu, while making the call, said women are morally, mentally, academically and intellectually qualified to serve in various capacities, in the fields they find themselves.
"We want more women appointed to serve. They are morally, mentally, academically and intellectually qualified to serve in various capacities, in the fields they find themselves, having done so in years, hence can lead, head straight up," she said.
GWIM president expressed the belief that Dr. Odusote's appointment as DG of Nigerian Law School "and others, including those in the banking sector, will open more vista and discuss for women in the area of elective and appointed positions as we approach another political season of campaign, ahead of 2027 elections."
She also called on the president to prevail on the Independent National Electorial Commission (INEC) to also prevail on the various political parties to reduce the cost of nomination forms for women vying for elective positions so as to encourage them.
Olomu stated further that Odusote resume, just like other Nigerian women was good enough for them to move up the ladder, emerging as presidential aspirants and candidates prior to 2027 elections.
Dr Odusote is 54 years old and was the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School before she became the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
She succeeded the former Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure expired on January 9, 2026, after eight years of service.
Odusote obtained her LL.B. degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She holds an LL.M from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law.
She later obtained a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, in the United Kingdom (UK), with research interests in Public Law and the administration of justice.
She joined the law school in 2001 as a lecturer. Since then, she has served in various capacities, as head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus.
During her career at the Law School, she was a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK for a short time.
Odusote has published extensively in reputable local and international law journals and has presented papers at numerous legal education conferences. She also served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, Odusote will be responsible for the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses.
