The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu, has faulted reports circulating on social media that 163 worshippers were kidnapped in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state, describing such as false and misleading.
The police boss gave this position, while speaking with newsmen on Monday, after a State Security Council meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, saying that the police command had received no report or record of such an incident.
Rabiu urged the public to verify information before sharing it, warning that the spread of unverified reports could cause unnecessary panic and threaten public peace.
The police commissioner challenged those making the false claim to provide the names of the supposed victims and other verifiable details, and further warned that anyone found spreading false security reports could face legal consequences under Nigerian law.
Rabiu assured residents that security agencies in the state remained vigilant, noting that the police maintained a strong presence in Kajuru Local Government Area and other parts of Kaduna State, just as he added that security forces were on standby to respond promptly to any confirmed threat or incident.
Also speaking on the same issue, the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, Hon. Dauda Madaki, said he personally mobilised the police and other security agencies to Kurmin Wali community following the rumours of the alleged abduction, affirming that no such incident occurred.
This was just as he noted that community leaders cooperated fully with security personnel during the verification exercise.
“We visited the church where the so-called kidnap was said to have taken place, and there was no evidence of any attack. I also asked the village head, Mai Dan Zaria, who confirmed that nothing of that nature happened," the council boss said.
The youth leader of the area, Bernard Bona, in his own remark, also told journalists that the reports were baseless, saying that no abduction took place.
