Rivers Assembly Begins Impeachment Proceedings Against Fubara, Deputy

Rivers State House of Assembly, on Thursday, commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu over allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy. 
 
The move is coming days after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, accused Fubara of reneging on a peace agreement brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

At the plenary presided over by Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Hon. Major Jack, formally presented a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Governor Fubara, citing Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). 

The lawmaker listed seven allegations against him, including the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and failure to comply with a Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to the legislature. 

The impeachment notice, according to reports, was signed by 26 lawmakers, with the speaker directing that the notice be served on Governor Fubara within seven days, in line with constitutional provisions. 

Also, the Deputy Leader, Hon. Linda Stewart, laid a separate notice of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Odu.
