The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hazmat, has tasked the youths in the state to rise up to the occasion by turning the challenges that surround them to opportunities.
Dr Kadri made the call on Thursday in his keynote address at the One Day Leadership Seminar and Alumni Launch as part of the activities of 2025/2026 Ibile Youth Academy organized by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development at Adeyeml Bero Auditorium.
Speaking on the theme,"From Potential to Power:Equipping Youth for Leadership in a Smart City," Hamzat said Nigeria is a country blessed with human and natural resources whose citizens were contributing tremendously to the progress of different countries across the world.
"Nigerians are highly talented people whose impacts are felt wherever they are in the world. What our youths must realize is that they need to rise up to the occasion by turning the problems around us to opportunities.
"They need resilience and teamwork for this to be possible. Ibile Youth Academy is a platform to prepare our youth for leadership position. It will help translate the potentials of our young ones to the power to lead. We should measure right things, not wrong things. Progress is systematically planned," the deputy governor stated.
In his opening remarks, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, stated that the program was a strategic consolidation of leadership, mentorship and continuity, adding that the Ministry was strengthening the bridge between the past participants and the next generation of leaders through the Alumni Network.
"Leadership must be nurtured intentionally, sustained institutionally and transferred responsibly. The Alumni is, therefore, strategic to ensure that: Leadership does not end at certification; mentorship becomes structured and measurable; and community impact is sustained beyond the training phase," he said.
Similarly in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm (Mrs) Toyin Oke-osanyintolu, noted that the Ibile Youth Academy Alumni marked the beginning of a stronger and more coordinated network for sustained service that would advance grassroots impact across the five divisions of the state.
Pharm (Mrs) Oke-osanyintolu urged the fifty participants selected for the Residential Boot Camp to stretch their capacity, sharpen their skills and return even more empowered.
In their goodwill messages, the Principal Secretary to Mr President, Mr Hakeem Muri Okunola; Head of Service (HOS), Mr Shuaheeb Bode Agoro; Permanent Secretary, Parastatal Monitoring Office, Dr Olugbenga Aina and former Commissioners, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Olusegun Dawodu and Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile, commended the present leadership of the Ministry for sustaining the Leadership Academy initiated in 2017 which they described as a veritable platform that had produced youth leaders with integrity, character and patriotism.
