Concerned Professionals In NASS Commends Senate President Over New Appointments Cancelation

The Concerned Professionals in the National Assembly has commended Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over total cancelation of the new appointments made by the National Assembly Service Commission.

The Senate president had canceled the said appointments on account that they did not follow due process especially in the area of competence as well as the law established by the competent body, and consequently instructed the Commission to ensure that all new appointments adhere to the principles of competence, seniority, and Federal Character.

The group, in a release signed by its leader, Simon Okechukwu, while commending the Senate President, said the move aimed at promoting transparency and fairness in the Commission’s appointment processes.

The group however, urged the Patrick  Giwa-led Committee on Establishment  created by the Senate President to look into the process by going through documents and files of individuals before recommending them for any appointments.

This was just as the group observed that the Establishment Committee will play a crucial role in ensuring that appointments and promotions within the National Assembly management are guided by the principles of seniority, competence, and Federal Character balance.

The Concerned Group urged the committee to receive as many petitions as possible from individuals and groups, saying that doing such would make its job easy, even as it alleged that those who are not competent are going about with huge money to ensure they got what they wanted as they did before the cancelation.

The group, however, expressed great confidence in the competence in Mr Giwa whom it recalled was the former Clerk of the House of Representatives before  his appointment as one of the commissioners in the National Assembly Service Commission.

It would be recalled that the National Assembly Service Commission made seven appointments, three in the House of Representatives and four in the management cadre, and all were canceled  by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, saying that due process, Federal Character Principles and competence were not followed.
