FG shuts down 47 Unity Colleges Over worsening insecurity

By Our Reporter

Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of the 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country, following a worsening state of security, stressing the need to safeguard students and staff.

It would be recalled that several northern states, including Katsina and Plateau, recently ordered similar school closures following rising wave in banditry, school-targeted attacks and abductions.

The directive was conveyed in a circular issued on Friday by Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education on behalf of Minister of Education, Mr. Tunji Alausa, warning of "heightened security risks in several regions."

Schools administrators were, therefore, instructed to evacuate students in without delay and ensure full compliance until further notice, saying that the decision was in the best interest of the students, staff and school property.

"This decision is in the best interest of the students, staff and school property. Principals must adhere strictly to this directive and provide updates on evacuation procedures," the circular stated.

The Federal Government did not elaborate on the nature or location of the specific security threats.
