No More Impunity, Turaki, New PDP National Chairman Declares

The newly elected National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kabiru Turaki, has pledged to end impunity and the suppression of Nigerians’ will within the fold and the country.

Turaki, a former of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), gave the pledge in his acceptance speech after winning the PDP chairmanship at the party’s 2025 Elective National Convention, which held in Ibadan on Saturday.

Turaki secured 1,516 votes to defeat his challenger, Garuba Lado, who received 41 votes.

Two others positions, including those of the Deputy National Organizing Secretary and National Youth Leader, were contested at the convention.

Turaki, who expressed gratitude to party delegates for the confidence reposed in him and members of the incoming National Working Committee (NWC), assured that the confidence reposed in them would not be taken for granted.

"That confidence will not be taken for granted. The responsibility placed on our shoulders is enormous, and we shall carry it out dutifully," he assured.

The politician, while acknowledging that the PDP was at a critical point but expressed readiness to rebuild, reunite, and reposition the party by restoring internal democracy in the fold, further assured members that the era of impunity, disregard for due process, and suppression of the people’s will was over.

He, however, appealed to aggrieved members, who had become indifferent, and those who had left the party to return, promising fairness, transparency, equity, and justice.

"We will go to your homes, your cities, and appeal to you. The task ahead requires everyone. We will soon roll out our guiding principles and hit the ground running from day one.

"We are returning the party to the people. We will listen and give you what you want. Gone are the days when monkey worked and baboon chopped," he said.
