Tragedy struck on Wednesday as death claimed two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, namely Honourables Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu Daneji, representing Ungoggo and Kano Municipal Local Government Areas respectively.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Spokesman to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed the development, which has thrown the Assembly and state in general into mourning, via a post on his verified social media handle.
He expressed the state government’s grief over the loss and extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and constituents of the deceased lawmakers.
According to information gathered, Hon. Sa’adu fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex earlier in the day and was said to have been immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead.
Sources also confirmed the passing of Hon. Daneji, marking a double tragedy for the legislature and the state at large.
The deceased lawmaker, Hon. Sa’adu, is expected to be buried at about 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in accordance with Islamic rites, family sources said.
As at press time, the Kano State House of Assembly was expected to announce official arrangements and further details, including plans to honour the memories of the departed lawmakers.
