Osun 2026: APC Disqualifies Omisore, Alabi, Five Others From Contesting Governorship Primary

By Our Reporter

All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified its former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, including Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, among others from participating in the party’s upcoming governorship primary.

Omisore, who is a former deputy governor in the state, is widely seen as one of the frontrunners for the 2026 governorship race.

The report of the Screening Committee, headed by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq., and concluded on December 4, 2025, at Amor Hotel, Katampe, Abuja, cited failure to meet the mandatory nomination requirements as the reason for the disqualification of the seven aspirants.

According to the committee, the affected aspirants, who also included Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare — did not provide evidence of sponsorship by at least five (5) fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in Osun State, as required under Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

The committee cleared only two aspirants, namely Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji to contest the party primary, stating that its decision followed a petition by the Osun APC Renewal Group, alleging irregularities in the nomination process of some aspirants.

Omisore's disqualification, alongside other prominent party chieftains, had sent shockwaves through the Osun APC, and effectively narrowed the race dramatically, with indications suggesting that the appeals were likely to be filed by the aspirants before the NWC to seek redress.

The Osun APC governorship primary is slated to hold soon, and the winner is expected to challenge the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke who is currently searching for a party to contest on, having decamped from his original party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
