Senator Aminu Tambuwal representing Sokoto South, has reassured residents following reports of an airstrike linked to ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State, while giving the assurance on Friday, in a statement made available to newsmen, said he was in active communication with security authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation and to ensure that the safety of civilians was fully protected.

"I wish to assure the people of Sokoto South that I am in active talks with relevant security authorities to obtain full details and ensure that all necessary safeguards are upheld," he said.

The senator stressed that security operations were directed at terrorists and criminal groups threatening public safety, and not at innocent citizens who were already affected by insecurity, noting that safeguarding civilian lives remained a top priority in all lawful security actions.

The former governor, while commending the military and other security agencies for their dedication, acknowledged their efforts to restore peace and stability, often under difficult conditions and with support from international partners.

He further appealed to community leaders and residents to work closely with security agencies by providing reliable information and avoiding misinformation that could fuel panic.

He assured that through unity, vigilance, and support for lawful security efforts, the forces of terror would be overcome, leading to lasting peace for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

"I also call on community leaders, traditional institutions, and residents to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing credible information and resisting misinformation that could heighten fear or tension.

"Together, through unity, vigilance, and support for lawful security efforts, we will overcome the forces of terror and secure lasting peace for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large."
